Solar CelebrationOn December 8, 2019, CFE and other church congregants celebrated the installation of 140 solar panels on the roof of the Buchan and Eliot buildings. The panels will generate about 39,800 kWh of electricity per year, significantly reducing the church’s carbon footprint. In terms of greenhouse gas emissions, 39,800 kWh is equivalent to 28.1 metric tons of carbon dioxide.
Members of Community for Earth began their efforts to bring solar power to the church in 2009. The current project began in 2015, and was spearheaded by CFE member Linda Craig. Oregon Clean Power Cooperative facilitated financing for the project, and Elemental Energy installed the panels. The project was launched with a lively celebration! |
